This bottle once contained 'Baxter's Lung Preserver'. This was made by Christchurch chemist John Baxter, who started his business in the late 1860s. A quick look online through 19th century newspapers will bring up countless enthusiastic letters and quotes from those who claimed that Baxter’s Lung Preserver had cured them of their ills and succeeded where other remedies had failed.
