It is thought that in 1896, Elizabeth Dickie of 'Edenglen' Tuturau made this hair sculpture for a Wyndham show. Using a floral design, the ornament was constructed from the hair of 40 individuals (who may also have collectively worked on the ornament). A descendant of Elizabeth noted that though their names are no longer known ‘most of the hair would have been from her (Elizabeth’s) daughters and other Tuturau women of whom there would not have been very many in those days.’ History of Hair W...
