This photograph is of Keith Lawrence (292865), a local man who was killed during World War Two. Born to Robert and Mary Lawrence, Keith grew up at Mataura Island. Keith married fellow Mataura Island girl, Rene Olive and the couple had been living on Cashel Street in Christchurch when Keith enlisted. Keith served as a gunner with the New Zealand Artillery 38th Field Regiment and was accidentally killed on November 4, 1943 aged 22. He is buried in the Bourail New Zealand War Cemetery in New Cal...
