Description

This is a sepia photograph of the Edendale Gravel Pit in 1908. The men are Jack Milne - contractor and carrier around Edendale, John Angus McDonald and George Routledge. Jack Milne carried coal and cheese crate wood to Seaward Downs and Menzies Ferry and he would bring cheese back to the railway. He would also cart groceries and metal. All the electric light poles round Edendale township were dragged from the railway by Jack Milne. He towed these by chain dragged behind on the ground
