Description

A silk and crochet handkerchief comprising an inner panel of silk surrounded by a scalloped crochet border. Throughout history handkerchiefs have served many purposes; they were symbols of status, practical accessories, fashion accessories and devices to convey a 'secret' language through gestures. This handkerchief likely dates to the late Victorian era and was probably a fashion accessory as opposed to serving a practical purpose, indicated by the silk and elaborate crochet detail.
