Top Town first screened on Kiwi television in 1976. The travelling summer game show was styled partly on a British series called It's a Knockout. It was held at sports grounds in local towns, and athletes competed in a series of crazy games, 'til the point of exhaustion — for $9000 in prize money. It ran for 15 summers until 1990 and the original hosts were Sir Howard Morrison and Paddy O'Donnell.
