Description

The first St Michael and All Angels Church was built 1861 on the present land at Valley Road, Hakaru. The dimensions were 20 feet by 12 feet, and it was built by 'Stewart and Company Builders' who were James and Archibald Stewart and William McMillan. The little building was also used as a school room for several years. After 20 years a bigger church was needed and on 23 February 1886, the foundation stone was laid for a new church. It was dedicated on 1 April 1887, and is still in use today....
