Description

The RMS Mauretania was an ocean liner that was launched on 28 July 1938 at the Cammell Laird yard in Birkenhead, England and was completed in May 1939. She spent very little time in commercial enterprise before being requisitioned by the Government. Sent to New York, and then on to Sydney, Australia, she was refitted out as a troopship. During the Second World War, the Mauretania  traveled 540,000 miles (870,000 km) and carried over 340,000 troops. This postcard was used by Cunard in 1950 a...
