A silver butter knife that belonged to Henry Hirst in 1865. Henry arrived in New Zealand aboard the 'Agra' in 1858. He was one of the first pākehā to explore the country between the Waiau River and Breaksea Sound, before becoming a butcher in Riverton and eventually a landowner near Orepuki. He was the first Chairman of the Wallace County Council in 1877 and Captain of the Riverton Rifles, 1879 to 1885, along with many other community endeavors.
