A shako plate for the 65th (2nd Yorkshire, North Riding) Regiment. Shako plates are a type of cap badge that were worn on shako hats, which were introduced as the first regulation headdress for the British Army in 1800. Shako plates were large and featured the regimental insignia of the wearer. We believe that this is a shako plate that would have been worn by a member of the 65th (2nd Yorkshire, North Riding) Regiment.
