Description

Remains of a spoon dredge bucket. The earliest of dredges. A leather or canvas bag was tied around an iron loop attached to a pole.The spoon was dragged towards the bow by a winch then lifted and the contents emptied into a sluice box. A pump driven by a water wheel provided water for working the gravel in the box.
