Description

Cast iron sad iron in the shape of an upturned ship. Iron handle mounted on top. Stamped "Rd No. 573" (registered design number) on the side of the handle and "22lb'" (22 pounds) on the top of the iron. On the main part of the body is stamped J&J Siddons, West Bromwich." ‘Sad’ is an Old English word for “solid,” and the term “sad iron” is used to distinguish heavy flat irons.
