AbstractThe aim of this paper is to report on fatal landslides resulting from two extraordinary storm events in January and February 2023, in Auckland, New Zealand, including the characteristics of the terrain, the site geology, and the storms. The January 27 Auckland Anniversary storm was from an “atmospheric river,” dumping Summer’s worth of rain (265 mm) in one day.
