Description

Black and white postcard of Hastings Telegraph and Post Office with horse drawn mail coaches. The Post Office was opened at the corner of Queen Street and Russell Street by Prime Minister Sir Joseph Ward on 24 January 1910. It was designed by government architect John Campbell and built by J. Renouf. When the earthquake struck on 3 February 1931 the clock tower fell into the street, killing one person and injuring many more. The clock mechanism was later used in the new Hastings Clock Tower
