Local historians weekly "Back Issues" article in the Manawatū Standard. History of Parahaki Island. Approximately 10 hectares, it is located at the confluence of the Pohangina and Manawatū rivers. It is a significant site for mana whenua. It was historically used as a seasonal kāinga (dwelling), mahinga kai (food-gathering place) and urupā (burial ground/graveyard). The island remains Māori freehold land and was vested with Te Āpiti Ahu Whenua Trust in 2018
