Description

A black and white photograph taken during World War Two of some military vehicles, including an ambulance, gathered in an otherwise empty desert. An inscription on the reverse side of the photograph states - "At the start line of the attack 23 Oct, 1942." On the 23rd October, 1942, Lieutenant-General Bernard Montgomery, commander of the Eight Army, opened his offensive against the Axis forces.
