Description

In 1860, John Hoyte and his wife moved to Auckland, where they lived for sixteen years. Hoyte was previously employed as a painter in Guyana, and upon arrival in New Zealand he worked as a private art teacher and watercolourist. Around 1869, he co-founded the Auckland Society of Artists. Hoyte spent a lot of time travelling, and his paintings often captured scenery from around the country. In k...
