The latest battleship to join the British Pacific Fleet, H.M.S. Duke of York, ivas recently in Sydney Harbour on her way to do battle with the Japanese, 1, The Duke of York entering Sydney Harbour. 2, During his visit to the battleship Admiral Sir Bruce Fraser, Commander-in-Chief of the British Pacific Fleet, spent some lime on the bridge. 3, On board is probably the tallest midshipman in the Royal Navy, Midshipman H. W. G. Stamper, of Hertfordshire, who is 6ft 7\in and easily overshadows Midshipman Di'G. Cooper, of Sussex, ivhois sft sin. 4, A souvenir of the action in which- the Scharnhorst ivas sunk, mounted in the Chief Petty Officers' recreation room. It is a section of the strut of the foremast hit by an 11-inch shell from the Scharnhorst off the North Cape in 1943. 5, Admiral Sir Bruce Fraser talks ivith Petty Officer Telegraphist L. Walker (right), of Northumberland, who was on the Admiral's bridge in the Scharnhorst action. (Evening Post, 12 July 1945)
