Opo - the gay golphin
A DigitalNZ Story by Fiona, Alexander Turnbull Library
Eric Lee-Johnson's photograph of the sign "Welcome to Opononi But Don't Try to Shoot our Gay Golphin" caught my eye for a variety of reasons - plus a small trove of related photographs were the genesis for this set. I have since noticed that Te Ara http://www.teara.govt.nz has one chapter devoted to 'Humans and dolphins' http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/dolphins/page-5 that includes background on Opo & Pelorus Jack under the broader subject of Dolphins.
